South Yarra Terrace
Transforming a single-storey workers cottage into a double-storey home, the context-sensitive design for this South Yarra Terrace renovation and extension first and foremost brought new amenity for a young growing family.
Using familiar timber shingle detailing seen in similar cottages as the street facing cladding of the new addition, the original cottage was returned to weatherboards in keeping with the neighbouring homes.
The project maximises a tight site with a hidden under-stair laundry, large sliding glazing to the kitchen, dining, living area, roof windows to the first floor bedrooms, Juliet balcony and storage into the existing roof space and cute curved door and pantry detailing referencing the fishscale shingle cladding.
