The Stables
Ascot Vale
Preserving the rich heritage of late harness-racing trainer William Davin’s 1890s home, “The Stables” respectfully restores a Victorian villa and heritage-listed stables, integrating new living areas, first-floor extension and pool. The project also inserts a subtle subdivision and a second entirely new dwelling providing a densification of housing in the street without uncharacteristic change to the neighbourhood context.
Thoughtful landscaping, low front fences, and contemporary materials bring heritage detailing together with contemporary design. With careful consultation and assistance from Heritage Advisors, the retention and restoration of the majority of existing structures honours the site’s heritage enabling a bright and long future for the property.
